Thoughts from Sext, July 28

From Sext (the Sixth Hour, Noon Prayer)

Proverbs 3:13-15 “Happy the man who discovers wisdom, the man who gains discernment: gaining her is more rewarding than silver, more profitable than gold. She is beyond the price of pearls, nothing you could covet is her equal.”

In His parables of the Kingdom of Heaven, in Matthew 13, Jesus tells us “the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.”

Reading these passages together, we see there is no treasure in this world that can exceed the wisdom of knowing God’s will.

To align our lives by the will of God is to step in to the kingdom of heaven, and achieve great peace and joy which is worth more than any possessions we could accumulate of this world.

Oh Lord Jesus Christ, give us the humility and the wisdom to always seek your will through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that we may surpass the fleeting joys of this world, and step into your heavenly kingdom, where our treasure is eternal. Amen.
